we really do TRY to be good...
so the cute boy participated in yet another goodly activity. he and his cubSCOUTing amigos roamed a few neighborhood streets in our great city (with adult supervision of course)...and not walking in grass, and not racing to the door, and not banging or ringing the bell 4,000times, and not commenting on their huge and complicated homes (what with the 5 entry doors and all), and a few more nots. the do's? oh yes, and the DO...the great big DO of a rehearsed perfect wording combination that goes a little somethin' like this: "Hi! We are CubScouts collecting food for the local area FoodBank so that families in need will have food this holiday. Would you like to make a food donation?" awe, how cute they were all bundled in their jackets, beanies, and cubScout shirts. really, they were so cute...who could resist unloading their pantries to these boys? there was lots of enthusiasm that in all honesty came and went, but luckily came back again. in an effort to collect even more food we split up the group (sort of) in order to get to more homes.
during the "split" my cute boy (who I was no longer with) knocks on the door (along with more amigos and leaders). the door opens and at the moment my boy (or whomever) is supposed to begin the much practiced and used lines "Hi! I'm a cub...." he somehow manages to say, "Hi! We're here to arrest you!"
huh?
i/we did not teach him that.
we did not practice that.
that does not represent either organization we were doing it for.
what is he doing?!
augh!
want to know what happened?
the sweet, wonderful lady responded by saying, "Really? That's funny, because I'm the JUDGE." and when she said THE judge, she really meant THE COUNTY JUDGE in our great city!! at this point my cute boy proceeds with his recognition of her in commercials, and she is impressed. somehow he captures her heart (she must see through the orneriness) and she gives the boys brownies and loads them up with food for the food drive.
he came bounding back to me so proud of his experience.
