"how did it go?!"

okay, so i can't exactly leave you in the dark to my subbing experience can I??
it was wonderful! i walked into a school completely familiar to me. it was the school i student taught in 3 years ago...the last time i was in a classroom other than my child's. the last time i was officially recognized as a professional teacher. it even smelled the same. the teachers were the same, my friends were the same. it was cool.
i got there early (like school almost empty & hardly any sign of children early), read over the lesson plans that the beyond organized and prepared teacher left me (i love her for that), and soaked it all in as the anxiousness was building...soon i would add 19 kids to that room. and they were all sitting in the hallway just outside of the door. when i opened the door it was like a wonderland. i smiled and greeted them as they walked in the door. they were wide eyed and whispering quickly to each other "we have a substitute!" i was soaking in their little beings...their ethnicities, accents, styles, and cute little selves. i couldn't get enough. already trained in a morning routine...and going through with it, all while inspecting me out of the corner of their eye. i wanted it to be morning all day...although I was also really anxious to get to know them.
i did everything a bit wacky, and totally admitted my ignorance, and pleaded with them to help me, which they were beyond eager to do. i alerted them from the moment i opened my mouth (with a whisper so that they would have to listen to me very closely) that we would be learning the next 2 days together, and they instantly were on board. my behavior management shocked me. i thought i would be rusty and awful. in reality, i was better than i remembered. i think it's because i've been teaching still over the last 3years, and my skills have continued to develop...but i didn't quite realize it because i wasn't "in a classroom." parenting, scouts, girl power, primary (children at church), &church callings- my shout out to you is a big fat THANK YOU for my continued growth.

the worst part of my subbing day? when 2 boys cut their hair. i was particularly concerned about the asian boy whose beautiful black hair with perfectly straight bangs, now had a perfectly square hole in the middle of his forehead. uhhhh.
the best part of my subbing day? i totally fell in love. i really fell in love with all of them. but 2 of them stole my whole heart.
it was a good time.
