in my online search for "things I need" today...one including my camera 
(remember the canoe tipping on my Alec's birthday?), i got another little hunch to try my camera again. i snapped some pics, put them on the computer and became hopeful. i see some super obvious changes and imperfections, but pictures nevertheless. yes!
