remember the arch?

back in may when i was prepping myself for my boy graduating elementary school (and exactly 6 days before graduation), i got a phone call asking me to take on an assignment. one thing led to another and i ended up with a doozy. like the whole graduation. i kept saying things like "oh, i'm not in charge, ask so and so" "no, i don't know, i'm not over graduation" and then "okay fine, i'll do it."

and so i found myself filling up my house with 200something balloons (i don't remember the final count). i used the air pump for our air mattress, and watched (arthur?) tv.
while the boy buried, hid, surprised, kicked, rolled and played.

after blowing up the school colored balloons, i tied each one onto a string. i made 2 of what you see below. i wish wish wish there were pictures of the transporting process!!! i really did try my civic. and ended up with mom's truck. and even that was almost a joke. SO crazy and SO funny and SO much work...just to get 2seconds down the road.
i really wanted filler. the mascot is EXPLORERS, and the school uses an astronaut explorer to represent that. i wanted to go with that theme...i had a vision. and apparently no store had my vision, cause it was stinkin' hard to figure this part out. mom and i (she shared my vision) slipped into the dollar store and the second i spotted these picks of "grass" i couldn't take my eyes off of them. mom saw my brain spinning (thankfully). one thing led to another and these:
became these:
alas, the night before graduation all my pieces were at the school, and sweet andria (alec and her girl have been in school together since kinder) was there to help me put this beast together. it took 5hours.
the boy was quite happy to be done. i know we all were.

and the next morning, he happily walked through the arch accepting his certificates, farewells, and handshakes and we said goodbye to WBE.
