sentiment.

we ate dinner at my mother's tonight. she's in the process of revamping her space...reorganizing, cleaning and such. it's actually one of my favorite feelings in the world when it's all complete. so it was fun to contemplate changes, and repositioning the same old things in ways we never thought of before. it's another creative outlet that i thrive on (and i'm certain i get it from her). i even would have sleepovers in elementary and middle school, and we would rearrange my room for FUN....all night even.
after dinner we were huddled around the phone listening to my grandma provide details
of yet another mild, but embarrassing fall. on my mom's 2nd story balcony is a mini garden of plants galore. from the street it just looks like a balcony of plants. but from a chair in the midst of it, it is a cozy peaceful place. my mom, in total revamping mode begins to pick at the plants and rearrange, and verbally discuss her plans for the outside area. she even comments on a plant that is needing some string to keep it strong, although it is doing quite well, she says. "particularly because it was grandma joslyn's."
HUH?
i had no idea! i really didn't even know that was an option. my great grandma joslyn
has not been alive since i was about 13 or so. and my mom has a start of one of her plants that is living and thriving in her space. which also means that the 100 or so times my mom has moved over the years, she has carried this plant around with her. life is interesting like that. who knows the depths of sentiment one carries around.
