it's so quiet and peaceful in my home. i'm in love with it. it's 6:30 and i still have no idea what i'm making for dinner. my clean clothes are PILED fresh from the dryer...which i'm about to tend to. the boy is outside in this most beautiful weather and the treehouse is wide open feeling all the happy fresh air the breeze is blowing in. did i mention i'm in love with it right now?

which is great because today was a day. not a bad day...just a crazy day. and by crazy i mean this:

  • 1 girl hits her head with her clipboard 101 times (not an exaggeration, she counted and i listened)
  • 1 boy swings his art project all around, under, and entwined through his legs...during math (it was on a string)
  • 1 girl dances and jitters all through anything desk related (kind of like twitching and impulsive bursts from her mouth)
  • 1 boy sits and stares. only stares. he's 6 assignments behind...because of staring! at the end of the day i remind him that mom requested he bring unfinished work home at the end of every day. in less than 5 minutes he has completed 3 assignments!!!!!
  • i call a girl's name and she strikes a ballet pose (like a freeze frame) and says "what?"
  • hallway behavior expectations totally thrown out the window! so i say we're practicing this during 5 minutes of our recess. quite like a michelle pfeiffer movie NO ONE GIVES A HOOT on the way to the next hallway stop. so i up it to 10 minutes of practice during recess. what?! suddenly there's a screeching halt and they are listening. the next stop??? perfection;)
  • i took a 400 day old lunchable...open with exposed ham (i threw up a little) out of the back of a desk today
  • i took a stack of sticker name tags out of the pant pocket of my behavior girl because she stole them from her mentor when she went to report about her behavior at the end of the day (awesome)
  • during math (when i was trying to talk about multiplication) (and my kids were particularly anti-anything normal..especially multiplication) i walked out. no really, i walked out. see, i wasn't mad. i wasn't fed up or exasperated. i was simply without even one more tool. i had no ideas, no strategy, not one more ounce of know-how to get them back to me. they had crossed over to the dark and loony side. and so i left them. i didn't come back for almost 30minutes. or was it longer?
no, silly, they weren't alone! i went to another teacher's class and she happily traded with me. traded classes! spontaneously. just like that. and she played mean teacher. so they basically got to hope for Miss Nelson to come back(ish). maybe i should invest in a black wig and costume for these moments;)
so today, i walked out on my monkeys. and they were slightly shaken that i did so. perhaps tomorrow i'll get to teach them stuff;)

and so tonight, when i say i'm enjoying the breeze and the outdoors and the quiet....i really mean that the normalcy and simplicity of this little life in the treehouse makes me quite happy. i'm glad to live it.

Oh my. It's actually quite amusing from my stand point. And then when I scrolled back up and looked at the picture of the dude with that weird face...I laughed harder. Wow. Hope tomorrow is better. Hmmmm...thinking about ya!

I just heard something really funny and yet true! A parent volunteer said that teachers have something wrong with them to do this job and to keep doing it! I believe him! There is definitely something different about us! It's not a job, it's a calling! and THAT is why we keep doing it!
